Our Story
Ecoglo designs and manufactures Exit Signs and Escape Route Products to meet the exit sign requirements of New Zealand Building Code Clause F8 Signs and the emergency visibility requirements of Clause F6 Visibility in Escape Routes.
Established in 1997, Ecoglo International is a New Zealand owned company with its head office and manufacturing plant located in Christchurch.
Since February 2009, Ecoglo has been ISO 9001 certified for the manufacture and supply of photo-luminescent way-finding products. Ecoglo’s patented manufacturing process produces highly durable photoluminescent materials that are then incorporated in sustainable, fail-safe and cost effective emergency visibility and exit signage systems.
Ecoglo’s patented products have been used worldwide in facilities as varied as the Melbourne Cricket Ground, New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, Singapore Supreme Court, Toronto’s Eaton Centre, London’s Bond St Underground Station and Dubai’s 160 floor Burj Khalifa.
By harvesting sunlight or recycling the existing light in a building, Ecoglo products provide sustainable and cost effective building solutions. The solutions are failsafe, operate immediately and do not require ongoing maintenance.
Ecoglo’s green credentials were confirmed by being specified in the “Living Building Challenge” to become part of Tuhoe’s new headquarters – Te Wharehou o Tuhoe. There are many ways to become more environmentally friendly and one of these is to endeavour, wherever possible, to use new technology products that are more sustainable.
As well as reducing electricity usage, Ecoglo products incorporate recycled aluminium, are non-toxic and non-radioactive. Being very durable they will last the life of the facility and can then be readily recycled.
International Building Codes are changing to recognise such products as not only do they contribute to effective emergency lighting systems, but they are also more environmentally friendly and economical. Alongside New Zealand, countries such as Australia, USA, Canada and Japan have all adopted this technology into their respective Building Codes.
Ecoglo’s research and development has focused on developing products that have superior durability and predictable visibility. In New Zealand, Ecoglo can be seen in facilities such as Canterbury University, ANZ Tower (Wellington), Downtown Car Park (Auckland), Christchurch and Wellington Hospitals, new Bunnings stores, Eden Park, Viaduct Events Centre, Science Centre (Christchurch), the Downtown Ferry Basin Redevelopment in Auckland, as well as in hundreds of warehouses, educational and public facilities, offices and health care buildings.
